I read the book, Hidden Potential, during my winter break because I wanted something inspiring and practical. The book is filled with interesting stories about ordinary people who achieved amazing things. After reading it, I became much more patient and started focusing on the process rather than the results.

Sentence 1

I read the book, Hidden Potential, during my winter break because I wanted something inspiring and practical.

- hide(隐藏)的过去分词作形容词

- have great potential — 潜力巨大

- 动词 inspire(激励)→ 名词 inspiration(灵感,激励)

- 对比:inspiring(令人鼓舞的,修饰事物)vs inspired(深受鼓舞的,形容人的感受)

  • practical /ˈpræktɪkl/ — 实用的(Day 06 刚学过:a practical gift)

句式亮点: 书名 Hidden Potential 用两个逗号夹在 the book 后面,是同位语(appositive)写法,比说 a book called Hidden Potential 更简洁。 There's nothing interesting on TV.(电视上没什么好看的。)

Sentence 2

The book is filled with interesting stories about ordinary people who achieved amazing things.

  • be filled with — 充满了……

- The room was filled with laughter. —

- ≈ be full of,但 be filled with 更强调"被装满"的过程感

- ordinary people — 普通人

- an ordinary day — 平常的一天

- 反义词就藏在里面:extraordinary(非凡的)= extra(超出)+ ordinary(平凡)

  • achieve /əˈtʃiːv/ — 取得,实现

- That's amazing! —

- 对比:amazing(事物令人惊叹)vs amazed(人感到惊叹)

写书评、影评时这个句型直接套用:a story about ordinary people who did extraordinary things。

Sentence 3

After reading it, I became much more patient and started focusing on the process rather than the results.

- be patient with sb — 对某人有耐心

  • much more + 形容词 — ……

- much more patient / much more difficult — 有耐心得多/难得多

- 同类:far more、a lot more

  • focus on — 专注于……

- focus on the process — 专注于过程

- Let's focus on the main issue. —

  • rather than — 而不是……

- He focuses on solutions rather than problems. —

句式亮点: After reading it 是介词 + 动名词作时间状语,比 After I read it 更简洁。两个并列谓语 became much more patient(心态变了)和 started focusing on(行动跟上)层层递进。
